Hello and welcome!
I had a dream that I was at the beach, watching the sunrise, drinking coffee, and watching the tide coming in around the sand bar.
Although I would rather still
be at the beach contemplating the inspiration that may let me communicate my thoughts, I have finished my independent study contemplating health care literacy.
Now once again smack in the middle of a cold spell in Pennsylvania I am ready not only to advocate for healthcare literacy, but bring nurses into the dialogue that "connects patients and familites with their health through education".
Nurses are taking on more responsibilities in non-traditional teaching of health care skills. No longer can we just pass out a pamphlet and be done. We have responsibility and accountability to provide our patients and their families with evidenced-based best practices. Nurses might be non-traditional teachers, but healthcare is a non-traditional educational skill.
I dedicate this blog to my colleaques in the nursing profession and my professor @ PSU Dr. Julie
